It is an honor and privilege to host the 2016 International Highway Engineering Exchange Program (IHEEP) annual conference. In 2005 I attended my first IHEEP conference in Bismarck, ND. I left that conference amazed at the content and the networking. Since then, every IHEEP I attended has continued to impress me with the quality content and the amazing group of individuals willing to share their experiences with highway engineering technology. My interest in the Highway Engineering Exchange Program (HEEP) has continued to grow, and in 2013 I decided to step into a leadership role for the organization. In other words, I saw an opportunity to support a quality organization and took it.

You are cordially invited to the 2016 IHEEP conference. The theme for 2016 is “exploring opportunities”. At first take this is a broad theme. Let me clarify. In my mind, the purpose of participating in HEEP and attending IHEEP is to learn from others who do similar work and share relevant experiences. When taking the time to share my experiences, others have an opportunity to learn, and I have an opportunity to further refine my own understanding. In other words, it’s all about the opportunity. IHEEP 2016 will be full of opportunities to share and learn about our shared transportation business challenges and the technology required for supporting our mission. Take a look at the agenda – I know there are topics relevant to our current challenges we all share. The IHEEP 2016 planning committee is excited about the program we put together.

Helena, Montana is the conference location for 2016.The September weather in Montana is delightful – warm days and cool nights. Bring your family and stay a while. Yellowstone and Glacier National parks are both only three hours from Helena. Montana has great fishing, wonderful hiking trails, and miles of highway through rural America. Helena is known nationally for mountain biking and geocaching. As a native of Montana, I could go on and on about the delights of my state. Rest assured a trip to Montana is an experience not to be missed. Take the opportunity.

Come join us in the Treasure State under the Big Sky Country in the Last Best Place.
